X Men Analysis

Having a scene with just dialogue can be very boring if the dialogue isn't very interesting or important to the plot this can make the audience bored and not interested in the scene. Adding music and sound effects too a scene helps tie the scene together especially the music, but the music shouldn't drown out your dialogue in the scene. If you have a action in a scene like a explosion in a scene and there's no sound effect to go with it this can really ruin a scene and make the scene feel unrealistic and this ruins the movie magic.

Music
The Music in the clip starts from the beginning of the clip and goes through the entire clip till the end. The music peaks at 00:06 it then lowers around 01:13 when Bobby starts talking the music changes tone at 01:27 when Professor X starts says X men. It also peaks at 00:56 when Bobby is about to use his power.

Sound Effects
00:06 - ball bouncing on concrete
00:09 - kid teleporting, sounds like a squeaky whistle, swish
00:12 - catching a ball
00:22 - clay pigeons being thrown
00:24 - Cyclops laser beams  hitting the pigeon and Cyclops laser beam sound effect
00:48 - lighter sound effect
00:50 - fire ball being created
00:58 - whistle sound of Bobby using his ice power
01:01 - freezing the fire ball
01:02 - frozen fireball smashing on the ground

Dialogue
00:04 - Logan: What is this place
00:12 - Kid off screen: Hay no powers
01:06 - Storm: John
01:06 - John: Sorry
01:13 - Bobby: I'm Bobby what's your name?
01:16 - Rogue: Rogue
01:18 - Logan: What will happen to her
01:28 - Bobby: Welcome to Mutant High

Narration
00:08-00:11 Professor X
00:15-00:18 Professor X
00:19-00:54 Professor X
01:19-01:27 Professor X

Visual Effects Research

Tutorial that could help with this effect
 Scene 1 Shot 2
The effect in the shot is of a boy lighting a cigarette with the tip of his index finger. The X Men films have used fire ball effects in their films , and many other effects.

Scene 3 Shot 1
This special effect in this scene will probably be the hardest to film and do. The effect in this shot is several teachers teleporting into the cafeteria. Again X Men use teleporting special effect with Nightcrawler in X Men 2.

Scene 4 Shot 9
The effect in this shot is of a few lightning bolts when Jay and Tom shake hands this should be quite simple to do.  Even thought the effect shown in the picture and video it shouldn't be that hard to change.  Again X Men provides the answer for the special effects.

Shot Blocking and The 180 Degree Rule

The 180 Degree Rule

The 180 degree rule is a camera angle that centers around two character. When using the 180 degree rule you create a imaginary line in between the two characters. This line is called the action line while shooting you must keep the camera on one side of the action line while focusing on the characters, if you go over the imaginary action line this can disorientate the viewer, confuse them, lose the sense of whats happening, when the scene is happening and the position of the characters and makes them look like they've changed position . When the camera crosses the action this is called jumping the line or crossing the line. If you do want to cross over the action line you have to show this in the film by panning over the characters shoulders and do the same when you want to go back.

P1 Composing For Film

When composing music for film the main thing to do is research the film find out what the film is whats the genre, whats it about, whats the story and really get in depth with the film and characters and make it come across in the music.Make sure that the music connects with the characters emotions and personality especially if its character based themes. One of the most import things to do with the music is to make it connect with the audience. Especially emotionally if you can get the music to fit with a characters and then get the music to connect with the audience, It is also good to make theme catchy or at least bits of it so its more memorable to the audience. If your struggling trying to compose experiment a little you might find a tune that fits really nicely and you can just develop from there.

Hans Zimmer composed the music for The Dark Knight with director Christopher Nolan. Nolan and Zimmer discussed how they wanted to do the score around the joker's character, so Nolan would constantly send Zimmer pictures and footage of what Heath Ledger was doing with the character and Zimmer would experiment by refrecing his performance and pictures so he Zimmer could get a feel of the character. Zimmer used string instruments like guitars and warped and edited them so that the wouldn't sound recognizable  like useing a piece of metal to pluck the guitar strings. Zimmers intentions when making the soundtrack was he wanted something provocative and something that the audience would dislike and hate. When Hans Zimmer was creating the music he took the qualities of Anarchy, so someone that has a sense of fearlessness, don;t obey by the rules and someone who does what ever they want. I would say that the joker theme is very effective it really builds upon the character and adds to finalize Joker. The theme really adds to the tension in the scene and can completely flip a scene around with it, compared to other themes I wouldn't say this is memorable if I heard it without the film to go with it I would struggle to realize what it was from.

P1 Research into Recording Foley Sound and Sound Effects

A Foley Artist is someone who creates sound effects from objects to make it fit in and match what is on the screen, when they are creating the sounds they are watching a version of the film on a screen and the create the sounds while watching this so they can get the timing right with the sound effect and film. Foley Artists create sounds that would usually be avoided when they are filming on set, this means that the Foley Artist has complete control, volume and timing of the sound effects his is making which is a lot easier than trying to do the effect while filming on set.
When the Foley Artist creates the sound effects they start of with all the main charters footsteps then the move on to all the background characters, then they do the rest of the sound effects which are basically any thing that moves on the screen. Foley Artist Gary Hecker says that a Foley is a performance of sound and that a Foley Artist should be putting in lots of energy while they are recording.
The advantages of recording the sound effects in post production and in a studio is that the artist has complete control over the timing and volume of the foley sound than if you recorded them on set or used ones from previous films.

Short Story Pitch

Jay is the main hero in the story. Most of Jay's family have a power of some sort his mother can read minds, his cousin can teleport and even is baby brother can shoot lasers out his eyes, everyone had a power except him and his dad, his dad had come from a family without any powers so it made Jay even more nervous knowing that he was going to a school full of people with powers. So with Jay worrying about what his power is he helps a small kid Max who was being bullied by a pyromaniac so with Jay and Max becoming friends he finds out that Max can absorb other peoples powers and use them for himself for a short amount of time. So this gives Jay an idea to get Max to absorb his power to try and find out what his is. Max struggles to absorb Jays power and ends up absorbing his life and nearly killing him. While Jay is recovering the pyromaniacs start to pick on Max again when Jay finds out he confronts the pyromaniacs and they beat the hell out of him this triggers Jay to retaliate with super aggression that triggers of Jays power of super strength.

Jay is surrounded by people with powers, but he doesn't know his own power so he tries to find out while still doing schoolwork#tweetpitch

FACE WARP

Face Warp

P1 Music Analysis

In the Submarine clip above the music fits really nicely within the sequence, the clip is a montage with flashbacks that helps the narrative flow and gives us clues about the character and the music helps establish the personality of the character. A few of the instruments used for the music are a flute at the start of the music track and later a few string/orchestral instruments, the tone of the music is neutral it kind of floats between maja and minor chords. The music gives of a sense of thinking music, romantic, busy, dreamy and whimsical. The genre of it seems classical and its tempo is a risk andante (walking pace). The meaning of the sequence with the help of the music gives the impression that its the characters thought process if its subjective and how he sees the world. Which reflects the characters dreamy, whimsical , romantic personality.

Adding Sound to a Point Break Clip

My Point Break Video

The purpose of the project was to add sound effects to a audio less chase scene from point break. To export a video in premiere you select your sequence and go to file-export-media and window should pop up and go to export settings and select H.264 and go in the presets and select Youtube HD make sure export video and audio is checked and then just export and render the video.
In all I thought it wasn't that hard adding the sound effects but at some points it did get boring and repetitive especially with the footsteps but apart from that it sounds good but it doesn't sound that believable probably because I know that I added the audio and it would sound better with a music track going through the entire video. The bit I'm most pleased with is when the guy goes through the bush and when he runs in the paddling pool and i was also pleased with trying to make the footsteps seem further away by making them lower. I wouldn't mind doing this again because it is something that has to be done during film making.

Dialogue In The Opening Scene of Misfits

The purpose of the opening dialogue in Misfits is to mainly introduce the audience to the characters and establish the characters back ground and how individually different they all are from each other. Also in the first few minutes it establish that the show will entertain, amuse and make the viewer laugh even though later in the series it adds action and drama to the series swell but they only establish the comedy aspect in the first few minutes.

NATHAN
Nathan is the cocky, sarcastic joker of the group and you can immediately tell this as soon as he opens his mouth. When the viewers are introduced to the Misfits gang Nathan is the first one to open his mouth and immediately you can tell that well his Irish and that he's quite confident in himself he likes to annoy and push the boundaries with people and keep on annoying them to react he does this to Gary in the first few minutes of the show. He later on and calls Simon 'Weird Kid' usually this would be insulting but the way Nathan says it makes it doesn't sound insulting but kind of sarcastic and a bit witty and when he offends Garry he says 'no offense'. Nathan likes to be the center of attention and that's why he speaks first to make sure that everyone knows he's there and picks on Gary to annoy him cause he sees him as an easy target to annoy and to make himself be the center of attention even more.

SIMON

Simon is the only one of the characters that doesn't speak in the first scene, and Nathan is the only other character that knows he's there and talks to him. Simon is very shy and socially awkward this is why he doesn't speak in the opening scene and is probably the reason why Nathan calls him weird kid, and Simon doesn't look like he belongs doing community service.

GARY
Gary is the one in the group that best sums up the stereotype of a community worker, hes aggressive, a potty mouth, a chav and very easily annoyed. Nathan annoys Gary by saying that some people are born criminals this sets of Gary to retaliate towards Nathan by saying you looking to get stabbed, this shows that Gary is very aggressive towards people and adds to his chav image and later on Nathan annoys Gary again and this sets of Gary and Nathan to have a fight. By this we know that Gary is small tempered and very easily annoyed.  The way Gary talks his very much like the way Kelly talks very london chav so you expect him to say things like 'looking to get stabbed' and 'Im gonna s***t down your neck'.

KELLY

Kelly looks like and talks like a proper chav and is the last one of the group to say something so as soon as she opens her mouth Nathan stops kinda play fighting with Gary and starts taking the mick out of Kelly's voice and then Curtis starts to join in with Nathan and take the mick out Kelly's voice which she reply s with a middle finger, shes probably use to people taking the mick out of her and judging her cause of her appearance and voice.

CURTIS
Curtis is the only one of the characters that doesn't accept that his got community service this is probably why he has such a laid back attitude and is why he says he shouldn't be here and saying that the group isn't going to work for him shows that he cant stand the other members in the group. When Nathan starts taking the mick out of Kelly's voice and Curtis joins in by jokingly saying is that for real which shows that he could be comfortable in the group

ALISHA
Alisha really doesn't wanna be doing community service or care about doing community service, the only time she talks in the scene is while shes on her phone talking to her friend showing that she wants to be else where and she doesn't even talk to any the other group and doesn't really want them to be there with her. When the probation officer tells Alisha to get of her phone she argues with the probation worker like a kid would argue with their parents arguing that she thought he had finished talking when he obviously hadn't so it shows that shes slightly immature and just ignores him and the group.

Drive Sound Analysis

The purpose of having sound effects and music in a film is to mainly bring the film to life and make it feel realistic, good sound effects and music can really help to cement this feeling but bad and unnatural and off sync sound effects and music can really ruin this feel of the film.
The start of Drive is a dramatic suspenseful kind of cop chase, with Ryan Gosling getting hired by two robbers as their getaway vehicle, but he has a strict rule that the crime has to be done within five minutes otherwise he will leave without them.
The scene starts with a very low based kind of heart beat drum base, it starts of very loud to build up the suspense and tension in the scene and gradually goes down when Ryan Gosling drive up to the fence, keeping the soundtrack on keeps up the suspense. When Gosling puts the watch on the steering wheel It gives the sense that time is running out  for the two robbers. The sound effect of the him putting and setting the timer on the watch sounds slightly a bit louder than it should be but this could be by not having any many other sound effects in the scene  makes the watch sound louder and clearer.
The basketball game on the radio is on from the start of the scene and you can hear it quite clearly and it dies down around the same time as the music but it is not as clear as before, he turns the radio up when he turns on the police scanner but the police scanner drowns it out. The radio builds up no real suspense  or significance until later on in the film when Gosling escapes from the cops, the radio gives us information that their is a basketball game on at the same time he is doing this robbery but all the radio really does is just adds to the existing sounds in the background. The purpose of the police radio scanner is to inform Goslings character and the audience what the police are doing and builds suspense for the audience not knowing if the police are going to catch Gosling, around when the first robber gets in the car the radio scanner informs us that there is a police car 2 minutes away from the robbery this builds tension and suspense not knowing if the police are going to catch them or even if gosling well drive off leaving the other robber, then when the police radio says the description of the car and that its a possible suspect this builds up the tension and suspense even more because the police know what car they are using. At the end of the street a police car with search light appears this really kicks in the suspense and tension for the audience not knowing if the the police will find the car or not, but right at the end of the scene when the police radio says that the street is clear this immediately breaks the tension and suspense because Gosling has got away from the police.
There is hardly any talking from the characters in the scene so it adds more emphasis on the sound effects and makes them more effective. Other sound effects in the scene is a police siren adds a little bit of tension cause you know that the police are coming, the other effects in the scene just tie the scene together like the gunshot, burglar alarm, car door open sound, fence opening, car engine and the robbers slamming the door open

Napoleon Dynamite Sequence

We where set the task to recreate a scene from Napoleon Dynamite. First we had a look at the scene to the right from Napoleon Dynamite, then we were given storyboards to copy and plan the scene shot by shot and make it a lot easier to recreate the shots when filming. When I have done filming before I've never really done a storyboard I've just had an idea in my head and just filmed it or when did a stop motion film for my GCSE work I did a storyboard for the first few scenes and just gave up because it was taking to long, but it was a lot easier to do those scenes because I had done those storyboards. Converting shots from a scene that's all ready been filmed to a storyboard got really tedious and repetitive for me. My storyboard was easy to read and you could see who was in the shot (even if I had drawn them differently in the shot before) and I put little notes underneath to make it even more clear what was happening.
After the storyboards we split off into groups to film the scene shot by shot on campus. I was ill when my group started filming but I managed to do some filming the next day when we filmed the last few shots, we managed to finish filming those scenes quite quickly with only doing like one retake. Our group worked together really well but next time when filming in groups I would rather film with people who have similar film interests with me. When I edited the film together I took all the clips and then moved all the good clips into a new separate folder, but next time it will probably easier to just pick them out in premier. After I had put the shots in the folder I then imported them into premier and ordered them according to my storyboard and also shortened the clips to make them flow better together.  My Edit of The Napoleon Dynamite Scene
This shot is the only one that the we managed to match the background in both shots, but the camera angles are different in both shots. Our shot is a mid shot when the original shot is a long shot.

For this shot we improvised for the bike because we didn't have a sledgehammer bike. but the shots don't match at all our shot is filmed quite close up and in-front of the bike when the actual one is to the side of the bike and a mid shot. This could easily be corrected by changing the camera position and zooming out a bit more.

Both the shots are mid shots and Chris is leaning up against the wall instead of the lockers which i don't know why we didn't film near the lockers, but apart from that they are very similar.

I filmed this shot and since we did not have a bike that we could use we decide to use a little run and jump over the camera bag instead, and our shot is a little bit closer than the original but if we went any further away we would not be able to hear the dialogue. Everything's good apart from the lighting's a bit darker but that would take a while to get the same.
