The purpose of the opening dialogue in Misfits is to mainly introduce the audience to the characters and establish the characters back ground and how individually different they all are from each other. Also in the first few minutes it establish that the show will entertain, amuse and make the viewer laugh even though later in the series it adds action and drama to the series swell but they only establish the comedy aspect in the first few minutes.
NATHAN
Nathan is the cocky, sarcastic joker of the group and you can immediately tell this as soon as he opens his mouth. When the viewers are introduced to the Misfits gang Nathan is the first one to open his mouth and immediately you can tell that well his Irish and that he's quite confident in himself he likes to annoy and push the boundaries with people and keep on annoying them to react he does this to Gary in the first few minutes of the show. He later on and calls Simon 'Weird Kid' usually this would be insulting but the way Nathan says it makes it doesn't sound insulting but kind of sarcastic and a bit witty and when he offends Garry he says 'no offense'. Nathan likes to be the center of attention and that's why he speaks first to make sure that everyone knows he's there and picks on Gary to annoy him cause he sees him as an easy target to annoy and to make himself be the center of attention even more.
SIMON
Simon is the only one of the characters that doesn't speak in the first scene, and Nathan is the only other character that knows he's there and talks to him. Simon is very shy and socially awkward this is why he doesn't speak in the opening scene and is probably the reason why Nathan calls him weird kid, and Simon doesn't look like he belongs doing community service.
GARY
Gary is the one in the group that best sums up the stereotype of a community worker, hes aggressive, a potty mouth, a chav and very easily annoyed. Nathan annoys Gary by saying that some people are born criminals this sets of Gary to retaliate towards Nathan by saying you looking to get stabbed, this shows that Gary is very aggressive towards people and adds to his chav image and later on Nathan annoys Gary again and this sets of Gary and Nathan to have a fight. By this we know that Gary is small tempered and very easily annoyed. The way Gary talks his very much like the way Kelly talks very london chav so you expect him to say things like 'looking to get stabbed' and 'Im gonna s***t down your neck'.
KELLY
Kelly looks like and talks like a proper chav and is the last one of the group to say something so as soon as she opens her mouth Nathan stops kinda play fighting with Gary and starts taking the mick out of Kelly's voice and then Curtis starts to join in with Nathan and take the mick out Kelly's voice which she reply s with a middle finger, shes probably use to people taking the mick out of her and judging her cause of her appearance and voice.
CURTIS
Curtis is the only one of the characters that doesn't accept that his got community service this is probably why he has such a laid back attitude and is why he says he shouldn't be here and saying that the group isn't going to work for him shows that he cant stand the other members in the group. When Nathan starts taking the mick out of Kelly's voice and Curtis joins in by jokingly saying is that for real which shows that he could be comfortable in the group
ALISHA
Alisha really doesn't wanna be doing community service or care about doing community service, the only time she talks in the scene is while shes on her phone talking to her friend showing that she wants to be else where and she doesn't even talk to any the other group and doesn't really want them to be there with her. When the probation officer tells Alisha to get of her phone she argues with the probation worker like a kid would argue with their parents arguing that she thought he had finished talking when he obviously hadn't so it shows that shes slightly immature and just ignores him and the group.
