Project 1 Screenshot of Mediadata
Project 1 Screenshots and Explanation of After Effects
For the teleporting effect I imported two clips one with the girls in the frame and one with out. I then pen tooled around the girls and moved them over to the clip without them in it, I then added a Scatterize effect on the layer that I had pen tooled. To finish the effect off I added a yellow solid layer and changed the opacity to 56% to give the teleporting a bit of glow.
For the lightning handshake I created four separate advanced lighting effects and I played around with there positions through out the clip to make them move about a bit. I then changed there mode to add which made them more brighter and more convincing. I then created a light blue solid layer and changed the mode of it to add to do the same with the lightning bolts, and I then feathered it a bit to 433.0 pixels and mask expansion it to 154.
For the Flame Finger Effect I imported footage of a tiny flame and changed its mode to add. I then added. I then created two orange solid layers one for the glow of the actors hand and another for his face I adjusted these into the position and changed there modes to add, I then adjusted there mask expansion and mask feather a tiny bit. Project 1 Research into Recording Ambient Sounds and Dialogue
Ambient Sound
Ambient sound is sound that fills the background of a scene it can be recorded while filming the scene or added in afterwords. It is mainly used to add more depth and surroundings to the scene they can range from parsing cars, singing birds or people talking. Its better to get the ambient sound while you are filming the scene so it fits in more naturally and fits in better than finding sounds to match the scene, but its good to have a mix of both recorded ambient sound and sound effects to flesh out the scene more.
Recording Dialogue
The best way to record dialogue is while on set with the actors and have a microphone and attach it to a boom microphone stand and place above the actors and out of frame to get the best possible audio another way to record the dialogue if you have a dslr camera is to attach a mike on top of it and point it towards the actors. Its also good to record the scene multiple times to make sure that the dialogue is easy to understand and that it isn't muffled by background sounds. If you record the audio separately and add it in to your footage afterwards its a lot harder to get the audio to fit the footage exactly and to get a clean lip sync with the footage. Its good to have ambient sound while recording so that it fills the scene in more and gives it more depth to the scene and its also good so that the audio levels are the same and that the audio levels of the dialogue is higher than the ambient sound levels.

Project 1 Self Appraisal
Audio
The dialogue in the rough cut is very clear and can understand it. Some of the sound effects work really well like the sound effect I used for the fire finger effect when the fire ignites but the sound of the fire doesn't work well with the special effect, the sound effect I used for the scene makes the fire sound a lot bigger than it is, like a camp fire when i want it to be just a little fire. The sound effects I used in the electric hand shake effect are sounds that I thought would be quite obvious to fit with the effect but they really don't fit and kind of ruin the effect even though the effect didn't look that brilliant in the first place.
Special Effects
Two out of the Three effects I've done look really good and I'am surprised in the quality of them. The effect that i dint really like and needs a lot of work to be done with was the hand shake effect compared to the other ones it looks really dodgy and not very realistic and the little lightning strikes I used don't look convincing and don't match the rest of the effect, Ill try and improve the effect by adding a glow around the hands and making the lighting strikes match it. The teleporting effect I thought was gonna be the hardest one for me to do but It was the quickest one to do, little thing to improve on that one is to try and make it flow more fluently and add some sound effects. The best special effect I've done is the flame finger one and this was the first one I did. I think the timing of the flame going off is perfect when Sam snaps his fingers, the flame also follows Sam's finger perfectly and the glow around Sam's face and finger really seals off the effect perfectly.
Sequence
Listening to the pier feedback and re-watching the film Its quite hard to understand what's going on with the story and there's quite a few things happening in the short 2 minute sequence but we could try and fix this by adding a little bit of narration to help the film flow better together. The shots with done I think work really well with the sequence most of the acting I would say is quite wooden especially mine but I don't think that can be helped with most of are first acting roles. But I think if we add a bit of narration here and there and fix the hand shake effect I think the sequence will work really well.

Project 1 Rough Cut Feedback
Key Points From The Feedback
Add more sounds or music so that the film is less quite in-between clips and scenes, make sure the sounds are all at the same audio level. The sound effects on the hand shake scene don't match the effect and makes it less convincing. The sound effect for the fire finger effect sounds more like a log fire. The camera shots are mostly quite shaky. The sounds during the special effects add an element of realism to the shots.

Project 1 Use of music - Legal Considerations
Publishing rights is when a person owns the copyright of the lyrics and composition and Recording licence is when a band or someone has performed the version of a song that you want to use in your Film or Tv show. If you want to use a certain piece of music you have to ask the publisher of the music to see who owns the music, it is very rare that the artist actually owns the piece of music. When you want to use a pice of music and the artist is dead for more than 70 years the copyright has probably expired. Incidental music refers to mainly background music that is not intended to be used in the scene, unless the music is intended on being used in the scene it is incidental music.

I choose the piece of music because I wanted a steady repetitive beat to go over the video and I think the piece of music I choose fits the film well and works very effectively.

Project 1 Matte Painting Definitions
The matte painting definition on Wikipedia is a lot more technical and I would say more informative to understand than the digital matte painting book, the digital matte painting definition of matte painting doesn't include much information about matte painting as the wiki one if you are looking for a definition of matte painting look on Wikipedia then look in the digital matte painting book for how matte painting developed through the years. Wikipedia definition describes it like how matte painting is used and what for when digital matte painting book describes it as a technique.
Project 1 Health and Safety Talk
Before you film you should write a risk assessment to decide what risk could happen while filming what risk the actors could be at and how to reduce or get rid of the the risks. When climbing on the things you should ask someone if it is suitable and safe to climb on. When filming you should make it obvious that you are filming especially when in public places or when obstructing places like the stairs or hallway, to make it more obvious to people you should wear high visibility jackets and filming in progress sign's to make out very clear that your filming. Another thing to look out for while filming is the surface that your filming on it could be very easy to slip on and could hurt yourself another thing is when your are putting down food or fake blood for the scene you should make sure to clear it up after finishing the shot cause someone might slip on it afterwards.

Project 1 Working between Premiere and After Effects
To put Premier Pro footage into After Effects you can simply just drag the footage form Premier into After Effects. You can also import them into After Effects by selecting all your clips right and clicking replace with after effect composition this will then create a new project for you in After Effects with the clips you selected in the new project. But a easy way to edit your Premier clip and have it in After Effects is to Dynamically Link Asset it but if you do change a bit of the clip in Premier you have to save it in Premier otherwise it will revert to the old save in After Effects, If you put the sequence into After Effects without saving the Premier Pro file becomes the asset instead of the sequence being the asset.
To export a video from premier to after effects File, Export, Save Media and change the format to quick time or something thats suitable for your project. You can also do it by selecting your clips right clicking them and then click replace with after effects. Another way is by dragging the stuff from premier to after effects and clicking create new composition.

Project 1 Research and understanding mattes and matte painting
A Matte Painting is a painted version of a landscape, set, or distant location that is used in film to create the illusion of an environment or background that wouldn't be able to do in real life or to expensive to create and film. Matte Paintings where originally done by artists using paints and pastels on a large sheet of glass which was then integrated into the footage. One of the first know matte paintings was done in 1907 by Norman Dawn for the film Missions of California. To the right is a traditional matte from The Wizard of Oz. Traditional matte paintings have been used in several blockbuster movies like Raiders of the lost ark and Star Wars. I was expecting that Star Wars would have used matte paintings for a lot of there death star and space scenes I would of thought sci fi and fantasy movies would be the type of films that use matte painting the most but traditional matte paintings have been used for iconic moments in films that i wouldn't of expected to have used matte paintings like Raiders of the Lost Ark is at the end of
the film where a guy is hiding the Ark of the Covenant in a ware house full of crates. (left) I've watched Indiana Jones several times and I would of never of guessed that it was a painting. Around 1980 matte painters where starting to created matte paintings on the computer, the first ever one created in this format was in Young Sherlock Homes by Chris Evans in 1985, the matte was of a Knight jumping through a stained-glass window. Evans did this buy painting the window then scanning it into the computer to digitally manipulate it. Then around the 1990 matte paintings where getting merged with digital composting. Digital composing merges live action footage with a traditional matte that had been photographed then scanned. One of the first films to do this was Die Hard 2 the painted matte was of several airplanes on a airport runway in the snow. Around 1997 traditional matte paintings where not being used one of the last ones was by Chris Evans for Titanic the matte was of the Carpathia rescue ship. Matte painters now combine their digital mattes with painted textures within the computer generated 3D environments which allows the camera to do 3D movement.
Walking Dead Matte Painting
From the start of the video till 52 seconds is matte painting in the Walking Dead by Maxx Burman. In the first little clip Burman mattes loads of dead bodies on the road the characters are on and this is extremely convincing when I first watched this episode I thought they would of got actors to lie on the floor. In the next clip he makes a zombies face more gross and realistic, again this looks amazing and lifelike and again when watching the episode I thought it was done it make up. In the last clip Burman makes the character laying on the floor he look like hes just been eating alive adding exposed bone and blood on him and again makes it look so realistic and believable and again when watching the episode I thought it was done with make up. Burmans work is extraordinary and amazing and its unbelievable how realistic and real it looks it is defiantly a hundred percent convincing.
